The 4th Hamzanwadi International Conference on Education

The 4th Hamzanwadi International Conference on Education 2018 is conducted to digest the academic ideas of lecturers, teachers, students, and observers of language education and Indonesian cultures. These academic ideas can be dedicated to the language education field in Indonesia and to generate intelligent, polite, and attentive Indonesian people who cordially concern on the aspects of language and culture education in Indonesia.

    Prof. Manabu Sato

    • Professor of Gakushuin University, Japan
    • Emeritus Professor of the University of Tokyo
    • The past Director of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Division of Japan Council of Sciences

      Professor Manabu Sato served as dean of the Graduate School of Education of University of Tokyo from 2004 to 2006. He was also a visiting professor to the Harvard University and New York University, and an invited professor of El Colegio de Mexico and Berlin Free University. He was the past president of the Japanese Educational Research Association.

      Professor Sato has published more than 20 books, about 100 editorial books and nearly 200 academic papers. Many of his books and papers have been translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Thai. Professor Sato's multiple contributions have been recognized in the world. For instance, he was elected to be a member of National Academy of Education in the United States, and in 2009, he was appointed the Inaugural Fellow of American Educational Research Association. In addition, he was a winner of Asian Publishing Award 2012.

    Dr. Pete Dudley

    Dr. Pete Dudley has advised ministers on national policy for improving learning, teaching and school leadership under three Prime Ministers. He has a longstanding interest in teacher professional learning and how it links with improved outcomes for pupils. He introduced Lesson Study into the UK through a research award from the TLRP (2003-9) and he has led and advised large scale Lesson Study developments and research at NCSL, the National Strategies, the University of Exeter and the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland and he is currently adviser to a number of national projects on the use of Lesson Study. He owns the website (LSUK) and is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal for Lesson and Learning Studies. In 2012 Pete completed his Doctorate at Cambridge University investigating teachers’ discourse to establish how and what teachers learn in LS contexts.

    He is Honorary President  of the World Association of Lesson Studies and has spoken on Lesson Study and Assessment for Learning in the UK, Japan, the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, Palestine and Chile.

    Prof. Christine Lee

    Professor Christine Kim-Eng Lee was Head of Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Academic Group (2006-2015), Head of Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group (2000-2006) and Vice-Dean of the School of Arts (1997-2000). Her research interests are in the areas of teacher development and learning, lesson study, cooperative and collaborative learning, curriculum development, implementation and change, curriculum and teacher leadership, and curriculum and school reforms. Through her pioneering efforts in introducing Lesson Study to schools in Singapore through two R & D programmes, Communities of Practice in Cooperative Learning (CoPCL) and Lesson Study as a Teacher-Directed Form of Instructional Improvement, Lesson Study is now implemented in 58% of schools in Singapore.

    Christine is a recipient of several awards, notably the University of Singapore Gold Medal, the Fulbright Award, the Milestone Award from Teachers College and Singapore Public Administration Medal (Bronze). In 2015, Christine was awarded the Teachers College Distinguished Alumni Award and the Nanyang Award for Excellent Service to Nanyang Technological University.

    Sumar Hendayana, Ph.D.

    Sumar Hendayana has been actively leading Lesson Study activities in various schools and universities in Indonesia since 2006. He provided technical assistant of lesson study activities to primary and secondary schools in collaboration with West Java and Jambi Provincial Offices of Education, Syiah Kuala University and Almuslim University in Aceh Province, Sriwijaya University in South Sumatra province, Bengkulu Muhammadyah University in Bengkulu Province, Lampung and Metro Lampung Muhammadyah University in Lampung Province, Pakuan University in Bogor West Java Province. Currently, he supervises learning community activities in Sumedang district and instructional design research through lesson study of master’s thesis.

    He has collaborated with JICA in lesson study training for Asian and Ethiopian fellows. He is also executive committee member of World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) and member of Africa-Asia Dialogue Network in Education Development. He chaired 2014 WALS conference in Bandung, Indonesia. In 2015, he received JICA Award.

    Siripaarn Suwanmonkha

    • Professor of Department of Educational Research and Psychology, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand

    Professor Siripaarn Suwanmonkha has served as the Associate Dean in Academic and Research (1997-2001) and Associate Dean for research (1900-1992) and Director of Professional Experience Training Unit, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University (1984-1986).

    Her main research interest is in the area of teachers’ learning and professional development. For example, specific research projects that she conducted in the past are Basic Education for Career Development (2010), Research and Development of Action Research Program on Environmental Education Experience for Reflective Practitioner Development (2003-2004) and Research and Development  the  Training  Program for  Leaders  in  Instructional  Integration  for  Energy and Environmental Conservation in School Curriculums: Dawn Project (1998). She has led professional development programs such as “Core Team Development through Coaching and Mentoring Collaborative Systems” (2015-) and “Teachers, Principals and Supervisors Development through Coaching and Mentoring Collaborative Systems” (2013). Additionally, she has served as an academic advisor in “Teachers as Learners: Digital Media for Professional Development” project (2014-). Dr. Suwanmonkha received MS and PhD in Educational Psychology from Michigan State University.

    Carly Klein (Windesheim University, The Netherlands)

    Carly Klein is an excellent educator with a specialty in language development and international system change. For the past 10 years Carly has been involved in setting up curricula and models for implementing multilingual education. Her main goal is to implement an integrated approach aimed at supporting language acquisition and proficiency in schools. Focus lies on using strategies and techniques to ensure that students develop the levels of English proficiency required to succeed academically. She also taught at university level for several years. Her current research focuses on intercultural effectiveness in teaching, building on background knowledge and experiences.

    Dr. Ir. Hj. Sitti Rohmi Djalilah, M.Pd.

    • Rector of Hamzanwadi University, Indonesia

    Sitti Rohmi Djalilah is one of a prominent pigures in West Nusa Tenggara. As an inpiring leader she has plenty of experiences in managing some institutions. Her experience as a General Foremanin the biggest mining company Newmont in West Nusa Tenggara was her first career in managing an institution. However she felt that she did not find herself contributing significantly to more people, so she resigned from Newmont and decided to devote her life more for the foundation of Hamzanwadi Nahdlatul Wathan. Since then she has been serving as the leader of the women organisation of Nahdlatul Wathan. This position made the followers of this biggest organisation in West Nusa Tenggara sent her as the representative in the parliement in East Lombok regency. She was ellected as the head of the parliement for one period (from 2009-2011). Eventhough she was enggaged with politics, she was once aware that her interests is concerning on education. Everytime she has an opportunity to deliver her speech, she was always focusing on the field of education. For this reason she resigned from the parliament and was appointed as the rector of the university of Hamzanwadi. She then pursued her doctoral degree on Management of Education at the State University of Jakarta. Her main expertise is on the school based management. She has done numbers of presentation on management and leadership.


The 2nd International Conference on Elementary and Teacher Education (ICETE) 2016

The 2nd International Conference on Elementary and Teacher Education (ICETE) 2016 is the second conference which held by Hamzanwadi University, Selong West Nusa Tenggara-Indonesia. This conference will be held from 22nd to 23rd of October, 2016 in Grand Legi Hotel Mataram, Lombok-Indonesia. The ICETE-2016 is an international conference dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practice in education especially for elementary and teacher education. With the theme “to excel in teaching and learning for global competition”, ICETE 2016 becomes a platform for sharing the innovative ideas and practices in teaching and learning in order to promote a good collaboration among academicians and professionals in education.

Thus, the aim of this conference is to provide an opportunity for academicians and professional from various elementary and teacher education to engage in a dialogue around the theme. To this end, both all research and practice-oriented papers that encompass all aspects of the theme are welcome.
